AVAMAR Backup Failure Troubleshooting Steps
1)
Login to server
2)
Check the system Tray Icon for Avamar Agent
3)
If the check mark shows green Avamar client is
communicating with backup Server (Follow the below troubleshooting Steps
mentioned at the end of this document to fix the issue)
4)
If the Check Mark Shows Red It means the client
is communicating the server but the last backup was Failed (Follow the below
troubleshooting Steps mentioned at the end of this document to fix the issue)
5)
If the Check Mark Is Orange it means the Client
is not communicating with backup server(Follow the below Steps and later Follow
the below troubleshooting Steps mentioned at the end of this document to fix
the issue)
i)
Right Click the Avamar System Tray Icon =>
Manage => Activate => Copy the Server name and ping the Server and also
do the telnet with port 28001
ii)
If the ping could not resolves the DNS make sure
you have the Host entry of the backup server added to the Hosts file and check
to make sure its pinging
iii)
If the ping status is Request Time Out or unable
to Telnet port 28001 Reach out to the seniors for further troubleshooting.
Troubleshooting Steps
1) Login
to server
2) Exit
the Avamar Agent in the System Tray
3) Go
to task manager and make sure to End the all Process related to Avamar.
4) Go
to Command Prompt Type VSSADMIN LIST WRITERS and Enter
5) If
all the writers are stable (State: [1] Stable No Error)
i)
Go to services and Start the Backup Agent
Service.
ii)
Go to All Programs => EMC Avamar => Click
on Client
iii)
Inform backup Team to initiate the backup.
6) If
the Writers are (State: [5] Waiting for completion) Restart the Appropriate
Services mentioned below along with the writers
Note: - Don’t restart the services
Highlighted in RED as it needs approval from SDM or Client.

7) Again
Run the VSSADMIN LIST WRITERS to verify all the writers are stable.
8) Start
the backup Agent Service and Go to Start => All Programs => EMC Avamar
=> Click on Client.
9) Inform
Backup Team to initiate the backup.
NETBACKUP Failure Troubleshooting Steps
1.
Login to server
2.
If Error Domain not Available, Server Hung,
Server Performance Very Slow. Then Ask for reboot Approvals. If able to login
without any issues go to next step.
3.
Ping the NetBackup servers in the hosts file
entries and also telnet port BPCD & BPRD to the same Server.
4.
If the ping and Port Telnet is Good(Follow the
below troubleshooting Steps mentioned at the end of this document to fix the
issue)
5.
If the ping and Port Telnet is not working Reach
out to the seniors for further troubleshoot.
6.
If the Check Mark Is Orange it means the Client
is not communicating with backup server(Follow the below Steps and later Follow
the below troubleshooting Steps mentioned at the end of this document to fix
the issue)
Troubleshooting
Steps
1.
Login to server
2.
Stop the NetBackup Client Service
3.
Go to Command Prompt Type VSSADMIN LIST WRITERS
and Enter
4.
If all the writers are stable (State: [1] Stable
No Error)
5.
From the same command prompt window type
VSSADMIN LIST PROVIDERS (If It show Microsoft Shadow Copy Providers) go to next
step.
6.
Again Type VSSADMIN LIST SHADOWSTORAGE (If it
show all the Drives Configured with Shadow Storage)
7.
Go to services and Start the NetBackup Client
Service.
8.
Go to Start => All Programs => Symantec or
Veritas NetBackup => Click Backup and Restore (to open the Client Console)
9.
Click on Restore Tab to verify the communication
between the client and backup server.
10.
If the Writers are (State: [5] Waiting for
completion) Restart the Appropriate Services mentioned below along with the
writers
Note: - Don’t restart the services Highlighted in RED as it
needs approval from SDM or Client.
